Zeno's Absurdity and the Beyond Proof: Why Beyond Doesn't Exist

Quite a few years ago I took a accumulation of A akin aesthetics acceptance to a baby university in Wales which was agog to advance its aesthetics department.

Presentations on a amount of abstract capacity were accustomed to A akin acceptance from assorted schools and sixth anatomy colleges possibly absorbed in advancing a amount in philosophy. A part of these was an annual of the abstract botheration of what is alleged Zeno's paradox, which 'proves' that movement is impossible. Aback acutely movement is possible, the 'proof' is paradoxical.

You are allegedly able-bodied acquainted of the story, but I'll present it briefly in case it would be helpful. A tortoise and Achilles accept a race. To accomplish it added fair, the tortoise is accustomed a arch start. But, actually, the tortoise is not accustomed abundant of a advance and, in practice, it will be simple for Achilles to bolt up and beat it. But he can't anytime do this, according to the paradox. The botheration is that, in adjustment to beat the tortoise, Achilles will aboriginal accept to ability the point area the tortoise started. But if Achilles alcove this atom the tortoise will accept gone added forward. Achilles afresh has to get to the tortoise's new position. But if he gets there the tortoise will afresh accept confused forward. This continues indefinitely - or, rather, infinitely. Anniversary time Achilles alcove area the tortoise had got to, the tortoise has confused on. Achilles can accordingly - the altercation goes - never bolt up with the tortoise.

Another way of putting the botheration is that, to ability the tortoise, Achilles has to get half-way to area the tortoise is at any accustomed point. And already Achilles alcove the half-way point, he afresh has to ability half-way to area the tortoise now is. And if he alcove this point, he afresh has to... I anticipate you get the point. This happens to infinity, so Achilles gets afterpiece and afterpiece to but never catches up with the tortoise.

In fact, according to this logic, no movement is accessible at all because, in adjustment to move to the tortoise's starting point, Achilles has to get half-way there. And in adjustment to get half-way there, he has to get half-way to this point. But in adjustment to get to this point he has to get half-way there too. And so on. In added words, Achilles has to biking through an beyond of credibility even to get started. Aback he can't do this, he can't move at all - and nor can anybody or annihilation else.

I was placed a part of a accumulation of acceptance from assorted schools accustomed the assignment of discussing this problem. It happened that the academician who presented Zeno's absurdity was in my group. I appropriate that, if beyond doesn't exist, the absurdity doesn't abide and Zeno's botheration vanishes as a mirage. My advancement was swept abreast with the words, 'You can't just abolish infinity!'

Logically, with account to the absurdity there are three possibilities: (1) that movement is not possible; (2) that beyond does not exist; (3) that Zeno's absurdity is adulterated philosophy. The aboriginal achievability can confidently be rejected. The third can aswell provisionally be rejected, aback abounding philosophers still attention Zeno's altercation as pertinent. This leaves us with the additional possibility: that beyond does not exist. This achievability has not to my ability been anxiously considered.

In this article, I'd like to appearance that beyond doesn't exist. Without infinity, there is no absurdity for Zeno: if there are not an absolute amount of credibility to traverse, but just a specific distance, afresh there is no botheration in authoritative the aboriginal step, in accepting half-way to anywhere, or in communicable up with and overtaking a slower affective article (given acceptable time).

I accept a amount of arguments to prove that beyond doesn't abide - which are conceivably all the aforementioned altercation airish in altered ways.

1 Consistently small

An consistently baby assemblage is an impossibility. For a assemblage to be consistently baby it would agree with zero. How big is an consistently baby space? It's no amplitude at all, because if it took up any amplitude whatsoever it would not be consistently small. An consistently baby amplitude accordingly does not exist. Getting able to allocution about an consistently baby unit, as if it has existence, does not accord it achievement - any added than talking about Martians or superheroes, or alongside universes, accomplish them a reality.

Here's addition way of demonstrating the aforementioned point. You ability accept at aboriginal glance that 9.99 alternating is an consistently baby ambit abroad from 10 and represents an consistently baby fraction, but 9.99 alternating is in achievement the aforementioned amount as 10. This is simple to demonstrate. What is 10 disconnected by 3? The acknowledgment is 3.33 recurring. And what is 3.33 alternating assorted by 3? It's 9.99 alternating - or 10. The two numbers are the same.

Since Zeno's absurdity is abased on the angle of consistently baby spaces, this altercation should be abundant to abrogate it. But I'd like to yield the befalling to appearance that beyond has no achievement with account to amplitude as able-bodied as smallness.

2 Consistently large

There is no such affair as an consistently baby unit. But could an consistently ample amplitude exist? Yes, if the cosmos is infinite, it ability be argued. If it's not, an consistently ample amplitude does not and cannot exist. So could the cosmos be infinite? I shall altercate that it can't be.

For the cosmos to be consistently ample there would accept to be two points, let's alarm them brilliant A and brilliant B, that are an absolute ambit apart. You can't accept an absolute cosmos unless there are credibility that are consistently far apart, because if the extreme two credibility are alone a apprenticed ambit afar afresh the cosmos is not infinite.

But as anon as two credibility are anchored in amplitude they accept a spatial accord with anniversary other, and the amplitude amid them cannot be infinite.

Two credibility anchored in amplitude accept to accept a point which is about half-way amid them, which we'll alarm brilliant C. If that abode is assessable as half-way amid them, about astronomic the measurement, the ambit is finite.

You ability wish to altercate that there is an absolute ambit amid brilliant A and this half-way point, brilliant C. Afresh acquisition the point, brilliant D, half-way amid A and C. Is this aswell an absolute ambit from brilliant A? Afresh do the aforementioned again. And again. Accumulate traveling an absolute amount of times (supposing such a affair exists). Are the two credibility still an absolute ambit away? They accept to still and consistently be an absolute ambit away. This agency of advance that there cannot be a half-way point amid stars A and B in an absolute universe.

From the area of brilliant A, in which administration is brilliant B? Brilliant B is in no administration in affiliation to brilliant A if it is an absolute ambit away. If you could bend any afterpiece to it at all, you wouldn't be an absolute ambit away. To be an absolute ambit afar the two credibility can accept no spatial accord with anniversary other. Remember, it's not that any administration will be in the administration of brilliant B (which could be accurate if amplitude were apprenticed and arced in four ambit as the apple is in three dimensions), but that no administration leads in the administration of brilliant B. If they accept no accord with anniversary added - if in affiliation to brilliant A brilliant B is neither up, down, left, right, advanced or astern (or any added believable direction), it has no achievement about to brilliant A.

Travelling in all admonition from brilliant A, you'll never ability anywhere that has a spatial accord with (i.e. is allegedly assessable in affiliation to) brilliant B. Similarly, travelling in all admonition from brilliant B, you'll never ability anywhere that has a spatial accord with brilliant A. Imagine ablaze travelling in all admonition from stars A and B. About far the ablaze travels, it can never ability infinity. A apprenticed ambit can never become an absolute ambit (see altercation # 3 below). The abstraction of an absolute cosmos afield assumes that finity can become beyond aback stars (or credibility in space) are accounted to abide which are in the 'same' cosmos an absolute ambit away.

Star A * [finite distance]... [becomes infinite]... [finite distance] Brilliant B *

There is no acumen to accept (in this abstract absolute universe) that there are alone two 'areas' (star A and brilliant B and all credibility addition indefinitely from both in all directions) which are an absolute ambit apart. How could the amount of such 'areas' in an absolute cosmos be apprenticed to any apprenticed number? There accept to be an absolute amount of locations an absolute ambit apart, all getting like a abstracted cosmos in themselves, accepting no spatial affiliation with the added beyond of 'universes' which are an absolute ambit away.

Star A * [finite distance]... [becomes infinite]

Star B * [finite distance]... [becomes infinite]

But area are the boundaries of these allegedly abstracted (because spatially unconnected) universes? There are no boundaries, aback they go on forever. If they go on consistently and accept no boundaries they accept to be infinite. This agency that there accept to be credibility an absolute ambit away. But we've been through all this before...

Star A * [finite distance]... [becomes infinite]... Brilliant AZ * [an absolute ambit from brilliant A]

Star B * [finite distance]... [becomes infinite]... Brilliant BZ * [an absolute ambit from brilliant B]

As anon as beyond is postulated, beyond proliferates into an beyond of infinities.

But none of this is possible. A apprenticed ambit can never become an absolute distance. Biking from one point as far as you like, you never get an absolute ambit away. There cannot accordingly be two credibility an absolute ambit from anniversary other.

Two credibility advised in amplitude may be a absolute continued ambit apart, but they can't be an absolute distance. As anon as credibility are advised in space, i.e. accustomed a location, the ambit amid them is allegedly measurable. There is no such affair as an consistently ample amplitude aback finity can never become infinity. Amplitude cannot be infinite. Consistently ample is as absurd as consistently small.

If consistently baby units are accounted to exist, there is no achievability of movement. If consistently ample units are accounted to exist, locations in amplitude accept to abide (in absolute number) that accept no accord with added altar afar consistently from them.

3 Traveling on forever

But, you ability object, we can accumulate halving - or acceleration - a amount forever. There is no absolute to how baby or big we can go. This is true, and it gives the apparition that beyond is possible. But although you can accumulate halving or acceleration forever, consistently never arrives: you never get to infinity. You never ability a amount that is an absolute ambit from the amount you started with. About big the amount is, it is still a amount and has a accord with the numbers that appear afore and afterwards it.

This is just like the apprenticed cosmos argument. About far abroad the credibility are, they never ability infinite. Accumulate counting and never stop; calculation in huge leaps; quadruple the amount a abundance times with every count; calculation until the numbers are as continued as a galaxy, as continued as amplitude itself - you'll never get to infinity. Finity never becomes infinity. Very, absolute big numbers are possible, as are very, absolute baby fractions - but not consistently big numbers nor consistently baby fractions.

Infinity is a concept. We accept no agitation alive what it agency (even admitting we generally use it about in an erroneous way, adage for archetype that something is 'almost infinite'). Potentials can be infinite: possibilities are infinite; but a achievability is not an actuality. Beyond has no absolute existence. Annihilation in the cosmos can be infinite. No infinity, no Zeno's paradox. Sorry, Zeno, and aesthetics academician in Wales.

A absurdity charcoal however, apropos not amplitude but time. Time, from the present, can go on consistently and beyond can never be accomplished - an absolute time will never accept passed. That is accurate of the future. But what of the past? If time had no alpha but consistently existed, this would beggarly an beyond has already anesthetized - a angle that is bottomless with attention to space. But if time does not go backwards for ever, it accept to accept started at some point. If the cosmos started at some point it would beggarly that something was created out of nothing: that there was no space, time, or matter, and al of a sudden these things came into being. Either time goes aback for ever, or started at a assertive point. Either is appropriately impossible.

Even if an absolute God exists (not apprenticed by time and space, which are finite) who, at a assertive moment, created space, time and amount from nothing, what was God accomplishing afore this? God, getting infinite, accept to accept been about continued afore the conception of the universe, in the area of beyond - just blind around.

Zeno's absurdity is commonly anticipation to advance the impossible: that, accustomed the achievement of infinity, movement is impossible. But the absolute accent of the absurdity is the beyond proof; or, if you prefer, the finity proof: for any movement in amplitude to be possible, for any action at all to be accessible (since all action involves movement), and for all altar to abide in accord with anniversary added - beyond can accept no existence.

The Accent of Concrete Apprenticeship in Top School

In today's apple of burning delight and developed technology, teenagers in top academy absorb added time texting letters on cellular phones than they do in fact talking to their accompany and acquaintances at school. The ever-changing technologies accessible to today's adolescence accept amorphous to aftermath a bearing of unfit, cerebrally- aggressive youths who face the crisis of developing arthritis in their ever-moving thumbs.

Just as cellular buzz technology has beggared adolescence of their adeptness to acquaint face to face with their peers; so the admirable apple of the Internet has beggared the adolescence of the charge to actively go about administering analysis for academy assignments and projects. A airing to the association library is no best necessary, as adolescence can complete their analysis from the abundance of their own homes.

Modern accouchement and adolescence no best face the anticipation of alone acceptable "couch-potatoes" with no imagination, if there are so abounding added threats today than boundless television examination to achievement their development. Area already a academy classroom could accept led to alive alternation amid the abecedary and student; abounding classrooms now accomplish use of computer assisted acquirements which robs apprenticeship of its humanity.

Today, added than anytime before, the accent of Concrete Apprenticeship for top academy acceptance is critical. Acceptance charge to be apparent to the allowances of concrete exercise. Agents accept to be tasked with the albatross of aggravating to animate teenagers to appoint in exercise programs. If, while accommodating in Concrete Apprenticeship lessons, aptitude is apparent for a accurate sports' code, the apprentice can alone benefit.

Students charge a breach from their studies during the academy day. Concrete exercise is accepted to furnish the accumulation of oxygen to the brain, appropriately facilitating added able belief and bookish achievement thereafter. If top academy acceptance were larboard to their own devices, they ability able-bodied accept to sit in classrooms assignment afterwards lesson, after any concrete aperture even getting considered.

Teachers accept the alarming albatross of educating the "whole child". Apprenticeship cannot be alone an bookish exercise. Agents charge to abode the emotional, psychological, bookish and concrete needs of anniversary apprentice in their classes. A desk abecedary acquaint or computer aided academy arrangement cannot accommodated the needs of teenagers who are at such a basic adorning date on their aisle to maturity.

A compulsatory Concrete Apprenticeship assignment already or alert a anniversary may able-bodied animate and abetment acceptance to accompany a activity of concrete abundance throughout their developed lives. It is basic that acceptance accept how their bodies action and Concrete Apprenticeship classes accommodate an befalling for agents to explain to accouchement how to adviser affection ante and aerate the absolute furnishings and allowances of aerobic and non-aerobic forms of exercise.

Teachers should try to accomplish abiding that acceptance accept the dangers of a desk affairs and poor bistro habits. Affairs diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes are on the access a part of the youth. Girls could be encouraged to action blubber through a alive bistro plan and exercise dieting while boys could be encouraged to plan on backbone and beef building. A able abecedary can use Concrete Apprenticeship as a springboard or claiming to animate acceptance to strive for constancy and advantageous lifestyles.

Physical Apprenticeship agents accept to not be put off by the attrition they will appointment from abounding acceptance at the alpha of the bookish year. Agents accept to persevere and consistently change activities to advance the students' absorption and aerate participation. A pond chic on a actual hot day could attract even the laziest of acceptance into the water, for example.

The accent of Concrete apprenticeship in today's fast-moving apple area technology rules, cannot be over-emphasized. Acceptance charge to be afar from their i-pods, corpuscle phones and laptops and plan up a advantageous real-life sweat, afore it is too late. Acceptance accept to be adored from the anticipation of acceptable just addition accomplishment in the advancing action adjoin affairs diseases avant-garde man faces.

Looking For Schools For Gifted Kids? Questions To Ask Before Enrolling

If you're considering looking for schools for gifted kids, there are a number of questions that you need to ask before enrolling your children. Whether you've done this before and are just looking for a new educational institution or this is entirely new ground, here are some things to ask before enrolling. Choosing where to have your children educated is a big decision so make sure to ask the right things before making a selection.

Admissions Questions

It's likely that you have questions throughout the admissions process, but before you ever decide to apply, inquire about how long the school has been operating, what the typical days are like, how long the admissions process takes and whether financial aid is available. Asking these questions early in the process can help you determine whether or not each of the schools for gifted kids are right for you before investing a lot of effort.

Questions Regarding Academics

The academics are likely a big reason why you're looking for gifted schools in the first place. Gifted schools are known for having a more rigorous academic atmosphere so you'll want to know if you're finding the right kind of program. Request to see a sample curriculum so you can compare it to the school your child is currently in and check on the student to teacher ratio. It should be low enough to ensure that your children receive personal attention.

Other questions include: whether the institution is accredited by your state's Department of Education, how much homework is assigned daily and whether each child will receive personal academic planning based on their individual talents and achievements. This will help ensure that children who are talented musically can receive different attention than one who is academically talented.

The Costs Associated With Schools For Gifted Kids

When parents ask about the costs associated with these educational institutions, they can sometimes be concerned that such institutes can be prohibitively expensive. Many parents are surprised to find that financial help, such as scholarships, grants and other forms of financial aid, is available. Also inquire as to whether tuition costs can be paid in installments or whether they need to be paid in full before the school year begins. Lastly, ask if there are any fees, such as technology fees, that are in addition to the regular tuition.

Ask To Take A Tour

Before committing yourself to schools for gifted kids, request a tour during school hours. While you can get a great sense of a school after the day has ended, it's best to tour it when children are there and classes are in session. You'll be able to observe how teachers and administrators interact with students, which is vital if you're looking for a place for your child.

There are a lot of things to think about when you're considering looking into gifted schools for your children. These are just a few of the many questions you should ask to ensure you're finding the best educational experience for your kids.

Halloween Word Games - Educational Halloween Games for School

Halloween word games are a great way to get kids playing with words and learning while they have lots of fun. The games are ideal for school but can also be used at home. There are many traditional word games that can be turned into a Halloween game simply by using Halloween words.

Here are a few games to get you started. If you are stuck for words to use in your Halloween word games you might like to use this list of words to help you - broom, ghost, treat, magic, candy, witch, scary, spooky, mummy, potion, coffin, spider, creepy, scream, monster, cauldron, vampire, costume, pumpkin, haunted, skeleton, Frankenstein, Dracula.

Boo
This Halloween game is actually a version of a spelling bee but it is fast paced and contains an element of chance so even the best speller may be the one that gets out first. The teacher needs a list of Halloween related words for the children to spell. You will probably only need 10 - 1 5 words. The children stand in a circle. The teacher chooses someone to start and gives the word to be spelled. The first person says the first letter, the person to their left says the next letter and so on until the word is spelled. The next person says 'Boo' to indicate that the word is finished and the person after this is out and sits down. If a mistake is made the person also has to sit down. The game continues with the next word. The winner is the last person left standing. This is a game that kids love to play. You'll find that they will want to play again and again.

Sppoky Word Find
If you are looking for Halloween Word games that don't require any preparation, this is an ideal one for you. Children are given a word related to Halloween, preferably a long one like Halloween, Frankenstein or Skeleton. They then have to find as many words as they can that have the letters from this word. Each letter from the word can only be used once unless it appears more than one in the original word. From the word Halloween, children could make hall, we, well, wheel etc. Give the children a time limit and see who can come up with the longest list after time is up. This is also a good Halloween party game if you are looking for something to settle down excited children. It is also one the of easiest Halloween word games to prepare.

Word Chain
This game is a similar game to the one above but this time children are given a chain of Halloween words joined end to end. The word chain might have ten different Halloween words joined together. It could look like this - Halloweenbatswitchspookymonstershaunted etc. Children now have to find all of the words that they can in this chain of words. This time the order of the letters can't be changed and word must exist in the chain already. The Halloween words will be most obvious but there will be other words hidden in the list as well. See who can find the longest list of words in the given time frame. This is one of the Halloween word games that is a great way to occupy kids who finish work early in class.

Halloween Word Search
A word search is a simple word game to create for Halloween. You can draw one up on paper or create one on the computer. Just draw a table and make a list of Halloween words. The words are then written into the table with each letter in a separate square. When all of the words that you want to use have been written in, fill in the blank squares with extra letters. Your Halloween word search is now ready to use.

These Halloween word games are just a few of the many different games that can be used in the classroom or at home. The best part is that these educational Halloween games are just lots of fun, they are actually games where kids can be learning at the same time.

Hispanic Grants For School Support Higher Education

Today's needs in the workplace have changed significantly over the past century. As a result, a higher education is required in order for many to achieve their dreams. Fortunately, today, Hispanic Grants For School are available to individuals from this minority that will help them become highly competitive individuals in the workplace.

Scholarships and grants became available many years ago and were designed to ensure that monies were available for those who wanted to go onto college. With today's program design, however, money not only cover the cost of tuition and books, but often covers the cost of housing, transportation, and daycare especially for those from low income families. Additionally, in most cases the money is free from repayment obligations.

The money is available through a variety of sources including associations and private foundations, the government, and through financial aide. Many are directed at the professions most needed in today's marketplace such as the health industry, teaching, business, science, computers, and engineering. However, each has unique criteria you must meet in order to receive the financial support available.

Today's Hispanic students have more opportunities than every before. Grants and scholarships in the millions of dollars were provided in 2009 alone and this amount is expected to increase over the next several years. In most cases you have to be a US citizen with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Additionally, many are specifically available to low income families and to students who are the first college students in their families.

At one time African American students outnumbered Hispanics as the largest minority population, but that is no longer the case. This resulted in a representation by this group that was significantly underrepresented at the college level. Today's grants and scholarships are designed to equalize this imbalance. Although many students opt for two-year degrees or technical schools, it is the desire to bring more diverse representation of the classes to industry that has resulted in the increase of monies available for further schooling.

Although there is a significant increase in number of funding sources available to Hispanic students today, they still face challenges beyond that which are seen in other racial groups. They tend to lack the support of family and society as well as have difficulty securing the funding needed to secure their place in post secondary setting. In the past several years, however, changes in cultural attitudes have changed as more and more people have come to realize why higher education is essential to ensuring success in the workplace.

As the blend in cultures have increased, businesses have come to acknowledge that there is value in developing a diverse staff. As a result, companies such as Xerox and AT&T have implemented programs that ensure the staff they hire is educated and highly qualified. Their new grants and scholarships that support higher education for minority students are serving to help them become more competitive in the global market. Success of these programs has served to inspire many to increase the monetary allotments that service many students well.

Many students dream of the day when they can leave home and go away to college. However, in the past this was limited to certain racial groups that could either afford to go or were expected to complete their education in a university setting. With the Hispanic Grants For School that are currently available, many students with the desire, motivation, and GPA to become successful in a college or university setting are now unpacking their bags at places like New York, California, Texas, Puerto Rico, and elsewhere.

Grants For School - The US Education Department Offers TEACH Grants For Your Education

The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 led Congress to make the Teach Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant Program (TEACH), providing potential future teachers with $4,000 each year in grants in order to pay for their education, particularly if they come from a family with not much income. Wen you want to find out more about the TEACH Grant Program, you just have to check out your college's financial aid office, as they can help you get started on your journey.

When you get a TEACH Grant, it is with the proviso that you have to start work as a full-time teacher, educating low income students at a public or private secondary school or elementary. After your TEACH Grant is awarded, you have to teach around four years in the next eight years after you finish your degree that you got through the TEACH Grant. You have to keep in mind that, if you do not get this service obligation met within the allotted time, it will switch to a federal unsubsidized Stafford loan. You will then have to repay your grant to the Department of Education. You will also have to pay the back interest from the disbursement date.

If you want to get a TEACH Grant, you have to qualify on the following grounds:

  • Fill out your FAFSA form, though you do not require it in order to prove your financial need.
  • Have a status as a US citizen.
  • Enroll yourself in any part of the higher education process, given that you have an appropriate school that works with the TEACH program.
  • Take a course of study that will lead you to the classes needed to have a teaching career. Provided your preferred field of teaching, you have to take courses that will facilitate your ability to educate there.
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher, or otherwise meet the requirements that are given to you by the school in order to keep in good standing.
  • Get your TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve signed.

You can get TEACH Grants in such high need fields as English Language Acquisition, Foreign Language, Reading Specialist, Science, Special Education, Bilingual Education, Mathematics, and many more fields of study that have shortages of qualified teachers in the nation when you get the grant.

If you are working in a low income school, you will know if it is listen in the Annual Directory of Designated Low-Income Schools for Teacher Cancellation Benefits created by the Department of Education. The tcll.ed.gov Website is a great place to find this Directory.

You have to sign your TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve each year that you get the grant; you can use the Department of Education Website to find this agreement each time. In the TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve, you can find the conditions that you have to meet in order to get the grant, as well as what you need to qualify for teaching service; this can include saying that you recognize that you consent to having the TEACH Grant switched to an unsubsidized federal loan in the event that you do not get a teaching job in the right time period.
